Whats up with China’s Olympic Mascots?

The Official Mascots of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

These are the five mascots, Fuwa,  for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in China. They were created by the Chinese folk artist Han Meilin. Each mascot is supposed to portray one of the 5 Chinese elements of nature: the sea, forest, fire, earth and sky. Apparently, all 5 of those hentai looking voodoo dolls are an animal! The only one I could make out was the panda, I thought the first one was the result of a leprechaun fornicating with a smurf. From left to right we have a fish, panda, ”fire”, Tibetan antelope and a golden winged swallow-kite. Like I said, all I can see is a little panda with weed coming out of his head; the others just seem a tad far fetched. Well, I am sure the majority of the planet had no trouble identifying hobbit number five as a golden winged swallow kite…right?

In China these mascots aren’t so highly revered either.  Alot of people in China are calling these little creatures, “Wuwa”, which means “witch dolls”. It seems like these cracked out plush dolls are being targeted towards easily manipulated children and middle aged men with pedophilic tendencies, using these pathetic looking anime characitures as bartering chips for a hand-job.  I can see it now, “Hi little boy do you want to play with my Nini.”

Rofl witch dolls… I would’ve thought that at least the Chinese would like the mascots because I don’t think they’re doing much for the international community either, haha.

Heh,

Thanks for the insight. Wuwa indeed. Even their symbols for these games have an agenda - Tibetan antelope anyone? - Kind of puts the Tibetan protests over these games in clear light too.

Thanks!
