“The Dark Knight”- Yeah, it lives up to the hype

It has been nearly 9 years since I actually even considered seeing a movie in the theater twice. I just left the theater about an hour ago and I was completely mesmerized by the “The Dark Knight”. It is quite simply one of the best films I have ever seen. Despite the nearly three hour length, which felt like an hour and a half, this movie did not have one slow or dull moment. It was action, action, action in conjunction with awesome acting and more action.

I am a Batman fan, plain and simple. All to often “fans” are dissapointed with sequels or prequels because the focus is on outdoing the previous film. Not only did “The Dark Knight” out do “Batman Begins” but it pretty much dropkicked any Batman movie right out the limelight. One doesn’t even have to be a fan to appreciate this movie, any movie goer will be captivated by the sheer awesomeness this film presents. I was so into the movie that I almost refused to go take a piss, $hit if there wasn’t anyone sitting next to me I probably would have pissed myself just to remain in my hypnotic state.

The only part of this movie that got to me was why the hell was Katie Holmes replaced with Maggie Gyllenhaal? I just can’t believe that two of Gotham’s most powerfull people would be competing over someone as ugly as Maggie Gyllenhaal. Everytime the movie referenced her beauty some pre-pubescent teenĀ in the audience would blurt out “NOT!” or “He’s lying”. Granted, I was surrounded by a bunch of kids that were born in 1995 but I do not doubt their uncanny ability to recognize the sheer unsightliness that was Rachel Dawes, aka Maggie Gyllenhaal.

There has been alot of talk about Heath Ledger and his deserving an Oscar for his preformance as Joker; well, I think he definitley deserves it. His portrayl of Joker was one of the most spellbindng preformances I have ever seen. He played the roll to the T, what he did WAS acting. He embellished the roll and reinstated the title of “Villain”. The only other villain that was portrayed in an equally disturbing likeness was “Hannibal” plyed by Anthony Hopkins. I bet my left nut there is no one out there that could have played the Joker better than Ledger. If it were up to me I would given him that gold statue right now, too bad - he deserved it.

My favorite quote from the movie was, “Either you die a hero or you live long enough to become the villain.” This was pretty much the underlying theme of the entire film, Batman deciding whether or not to take matters into his own hands at the disposal of innocent bystanders. If you have not seen the movie I highly suggest you see it, I am no expert but I know a good movie when I see it.

It’s great to see the “dark” versions of Batman continue to grow. It adds a refreshing new flavour to the cartoon versions of Batman we’ve grown up with.

Shockie, I agree with you completely. This movie was a pioneer in combining the cartoon influences with the awesome power of great directing and acting. The preformances were unparalleled and really brought those all to familiar comic characters to life; especially 2 face and the Joker.
